Calgary Water Restrictions Stage 2 Today

Calgary Under Water Advisory

City Continues to Repair Water Main Break

Outdoor Water Restrictions Announced

The city of Calgary is under a mandatory water advisory, effective immediately. The advisory is in response to a water main break along 16 Avenue NW that has impacted the city's water supply.

Outdoor water restrictions will be announced through local news and through the City's social media. There are four stages of mandatory outdoor water restrictions based on the severity of the water shortage. Calgary is currently under Stage 1 restrictions, which prohibit:

  • Watering lawns
  • Washing cars
  • Filling pools
  • Using water for construction purposes such as grading compaction or dust control

The City of Calgary continues to work on repairing the water main break. In the meantime, residents are asked to conserve water as much as possible.

Airdrie Alta, a city immediately to Calgary's north, has also announced Stage 2 water restrictions. While public water restrictions have been issued in Calgary before, mainly to aid water conservation during the summer months, this is the first time the city has issued a mandatory water advisory.

The last time Calgary residents faced water restrictions was in 2002 due to drought conditions but those restrictions were not mandatory. The city's water supply is currently at 75% capacity.
